On Saturday 25th April the Donegal Youth Orchestra will appear in the beautiful lakeside setting of Ionad Cois Locha,( the Lakeside Centre) Dún Lúiche, for its summer concert 2009. Nestled beside the Poison Glen, and with spectacular views of Dunlewey Lough and Earagail Mountain forming the backdrop, this concert will offer some soaring sounds to launch us into the summer period.
For this summer evening of music the orchestra will be joined by some very distinguished special guests, Andreja Maliř, principal harpist with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, and Tine Verbeke, Soprano and singing tutor with Co. Donegal VEC Music Education Partnership.
In 1988 Andreja was one of the youngest principals to be appointed to the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and has enjoyed a solo career which has brought her to Germany, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, Israel, France, Belgium and the Czech Republic. She gained the highest award possible for musical performance at The Royal Conservatory in the Netherlands
Tine began her performing days in Ireland with the RTÉ singers and as a soloist with choral societies such as the Culwick and the Dun Laoghaire Choral Society and has competed in International Singing competitions such as The Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium and the Hertogenbosch Lieder Competition in The Netherlands. She is still an active performer with Concorde Contemporary Music Ensemble and is a much-in-demand singing tutor in Co. Donegal.
The conductor of the Donegal Youth Orchestra is the renowned composer and conductor, Vincent Kennedy. As a composer Vincent has written for orchestral, chamber, instrumental, Pipe Band, Symphonic and Brass Bands and vocal combinations. His music has been performed amongst others by the Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra, Antipodes Ensemble, Cantando Chamber Choir, Concorde, Strands Ensemble, Ottoni Ensemble, Tine Verbeke, Veale/Cleary Trio, RCBS, Band of An Garda Siochana, Combined Bands of the Irish Defence Forces and numerous Symphonic Wind Ensembles throughout Ireland, Europe, USA and Canada. Vincent has just returned from USA where his music was performed in a 49 concert tour by the DPO conducted by Colman Pearce and Derek Gleeson.
This promises to be a wonderful event, so relax on a summer evening listening to the beautiful sounds of the Donegal Youth Orchestra and guests floating across Dunlewey Lough. Performance commences at 8:30pm. The Donegal Youth Orchestra wishes to acknowledge the kind support of Ealaín na Gaeltachta and Údarás na Gaeltachta with this performance.
