Dé Máirt 31 Iúil Derek McGinley agus Tara Connaghan

Tá seanchleachtadh ag Tara agus Derek ag seinm le chéile i seisiúin, ar an ardán agus i dtionscnaimh éagsúla, agus tá toradh a gcuid ceoil le haithne ar an dlúthdhiosca a d’eisigh siad in 2011, The Far Side of the Glen. Tá clú agus cáil orthu mar fhidléirí Conallacha, as de bhunadh Ghleann Cholm Cille Derek agus as na Gleanntaí, Tara. “Níl barraíocht ornáidíochta ag brath ar stíl ‘s acu seo, rud a chluintear i bhfad ró mhinic i bhfidléireacht an lae inniu; ligtear do chuile nóta a anáil a tharraingt agus é féin a chur in aithne, mar a ba chóir. Ní mór á ndeifre, níltear ag cur stíleanna i gcuideachta chéile, níl ann ach smior fhidléireacht Thír Chonaill, mar a chluintí ó fhad ó shin …..”

John Waltham, The Living Tradition Magazine, UK.

“Tá toradh na mblianta fada ag seinm le chéile le haithne ar an dísréad fidle. Cuireann siad le chéile ó thaobh fonn agus éagsúlachta, ach tá achan rud ar aon bhuille: ní bhfaighfeá leithead ribe eatarthu”.

Tuesday 31 July Derek McGinley and Tara Connaghan

Tara and Derek, having played together for many years in sessions, on stage and in various projects, have developed a repertoire and form represented in their 2011 recording The Far Side of the Glen. Both are well respected Donegal fiddlers, Derek from the parish of Glencolmcille, Tara from Glenties.

‘This is not the “flashy” playing so often heard today; each note is given its chance to express itself properly – the music talks to you, as it should. No excessive speed, no attempts at fusion with other styles, just good, honest Donegal fiddling as we used to hear it years ago…’

John Waltham, The Living Tradition Magazine, UK

‘The fiddle duets show the effect of long years playing together. There are complementary harmonies and variations, but the timing is spot on: you couldn’t slide a horsehair between these two musicians.’
